On hiatus
This blog is on hiatus until further notice. I haven't run out of irritation, just have a lot of other things going on. All is well.
Observations and analysis on the quagmire of Iraq, from an Iraq Vet's view. I promote dialogue on national security, political and veterans' issues. All content solely (c)2006, 2007, 2008 IrritatedVet, unless otherwise credited. Feel free to copy/link to with proper attribution.

It's nice to know that you went on hiatus as soon as Barry got in the White House.
Guess you're not "irritated" about Obama forcing wounded soldiers to pay for their own injuries?
The Iraq War is still going on, by the way. It's basically winding down because WE WON, but let's not let the facts get in the way.
Nonetheless, there will be no premature withdrawal until the Iraqis have it under control. "As Iraqis stand up, we will stand down." Geez...whose policy is that?
George W. Bush's!
I support the troops and their mission. Or should I say "our" mission?
Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran,
BEN
Ben:
I can see what you mean about the timing, but politics has nothing to do with it.
I AM still highly irritated about the way DoD/VA has handled wounded vet issues, and I have always, always supported our troops. I was one of them myself.
As far as "we won," until we are actually withdrawn from the ITA (Iraq Theater of Ops) and can clearly see a (sectarian/political)violence-free nation with a truly viable economy, I would hold off on any premature pronouncements of "victory." Keep in mind, someone declared victory about six years ago already, and we saw how that worked out.
In short, the reason our foray into Afghanistan has gotten so hairy in recent years is that our nation took its eyes off the ball in terms of Iraq.
It will go down in history as one of the greatest strategic blunders of all time. This is not the fault of the troops...it was a politically-engineered quagmire.
While we went and upset the apple cart in Iraq, Afghanistan and (read the latest headlines) Pakistan are going to hell in a handbag, and the Taliban/AQ got the new foothold because we (as a nation) got distracted.
I'm not calling victory in anything, even politics. Obama's got a big responsibility. Monumental.
There is no guarantee of success. But he is at least thinking about these issues, taking action and talking to the American people about it.
I don't agree with Obama on everything, but I think he is constructively engaged at home and abroad.
As far as me dropping out of the blogosphere, I just felt it was time, for myriad reasons that have zero, zilch, nada to do with politics.
I will likely be back in some shape or form, but not anytime soon.
On that note, thanks for reading, thanks for your service, fellow veteran, and all the best.
